A vital connection between the gold mines and mills of the San Juan’s, and the smelters of Leadville, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison was also one of the principal attractions of the “Around the Circle” passenger tours of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, that attracted a large number of riders.
Travel back in time as we explore the railroad operations of the Denver & Rio Grande through the Black Canyon, and take a look at the changes that have taken place after the removal of the rails in 1949.
